Oh boy....Regional
Flaps of the Head and Neck by John Conley was discovered at a
local Thrift shop, and what a discovery it was.
Published in 1976
it boasts over 759 of the most repulsive pictures I've ever encountered.
I haven't a clue if this type of surgery is still taking place
but these poor bastards have these flesh tubes attaching their
heads to their bodies, have nipples plastered onto their heads,
and fake paper eyes stuck into hollowed out sockets.
The book is broken
up into 22 chapters including The Orbit, The Lips, Tongue Flaps,
and my personal favorite Special and Unusual Flaps.
The inside cover
reads: "A valuable guide to using regional flaps in the area
of the head and neck and aiding surgeons in translating imaginative
new concepts into reality. Clinicians will welcome the indications
for the use of an unlimited variety of flaps available for ablative
procedure relating to the scalp, face, neck, chest and back, including
sophisticated developments and techniques."
The horrifying
introduction reads, "It is amazing that this enterprise developed
principles primarily on the basis of trial and error..."
I have received numerous emails from
people confirming the modern day use of flap surgery - thanks - I think! Debased would like
to thank T. Waaka for her amazing discovery.
