Fok Yiu-leung's utterly insane Naked Killer (1993) is a blast of Hong
Kong nonsense that would have satisfied the appetite of the most hard-core
Grindhouse goer. This sucker is stylish as hell, contains some of the
hottest lesbian Kung Fu assassins ever caught on film, and contains the
most hilariously inept subtitles I've seen in ages. The film makes little
sense (the dialogue makes no damn sense) but keeps you cheering with insane
action scenes and scenarios, lesbian sex, great costumes, and the jaw
dropping - scene stealing Carrie Ng as the killer Princess.
After a James Bond-like intro montage, Naked Killer begins with intense
red and blue hues as we follow a frightened girl down a city street.
A man follows her into an apartment, approaching her while she showers
only to have her emerge tossing weights and flipping around the room!
The gal, who turns out to be Princess, shoots him up finishing by blowing
off his penis (she has serious penis issues). Next we are taken to a
hair salon where Kitty (Chingmy Yau) watches as her hairdresser kicks
his pregnant ex-girlfriend in her stomach! Kitty replies by stabbing
him in the eye with scissors than repeatedly stabbing him in his groin
- this leads to one of Naked Killer's classic lines - Hairdresser: "I
lost one ball of mine!"
A cop named Tinam (Simon Yam) witnesses the attack and chases Kitty
but the sight of a drawn gun makes him vomit! Soon Kitty's dad is murdered
and she drops by the killers bank to shoot the shit out of everybody
in flashy Hong Kong style. After killing masses of people Kitty takes
this conservative looking middle aged woman hostage, thus beginning
one of the more insane Hong Kong set pieces I have ever seen. As a mass
of thugs chase Kitty, the Middle aged woman tells her "I think you were
great," before whipping off her outfit to reveal black tights! She tosses
her hat at the crowd of men which explodes in their faces! Then she
starts tossing around this dagger attached to a cord, brutalizing peoples
faces and pulling them out of moving cars! The lady and Kitty go around
doing all sorts of flips and shit over cars before flying off the building
with the aid of a long ass cord! Incredible!
The older lady turns out to be assassin extrodinaire Sister Cindy. She
takes Kitty under her wing teaching her the tricks of the trade and
warning her about another assassin she's trained - Princess. Princess
is a real nasty bitch who likes to kill with her lover Baby - in one
scene they tear this guy up in his pool then have sex in the bloody
mass of water! Princess has been hired by Japanese thugs to take out
Sister Cindy leading to a super high octane conclusion.
Carrie Ng as Princess is so damn cool - she is a sadistic, stylish,
cigar chomping, sex crazed lunatic. She wants nothing more than to get
in Kitty's pants, demean her partner Baby, and destroy every penis on
the planet. Ng plays it to the hilt - you can't wait for her character
to return onscreen uttering subtitled nonsense like, "when did you start
jelousizing!"
Naked Killer is a real sleazy blast with a nice blend of frenzied violence, tasteless humor, soft core sex, overblown
choreography and enough inane subtitled dialogue to keep you in stitches. Check it out, you'll have a blast.
