Cult Music - PJ Harvey
PJ Harvey burst onto the scene in 1992 with her debut album Dry full of blistering songs of rage and anguish.

She followed her first album with Rid of Me, 4-Track Demos, To Bring You My Love, Is This Desire and Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea. Each album differed completely from the previous, showing Harvey's range and ability to take risks.

Born in 1969 in a small village in Southwestern England - PJ was exposed to blues shows her mother organized, "I was brought up listening to John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, and a lot of Hendrix." With the masters of Blues as her influences Harvey made DRY for less than five thousand dollars and followed its success with Rid Of Me which contained such classics as Man-Size ("I'm coming up man-sized...Got my leather boots on...No need to shout...Can you hear me now?") and Legs ("I might as well be dead...But I could kill you instead.")

It was during this period that PJ went from tomboy to an outrageous vixen with bright glaring make-up and sexy jumpsuits with black bra peeking through. She also shot some pretty cool, cheap grainy videos to accompany her tunes.

I've taken much heat for my adoration of P.J. Harvey - but hey I think she's sexy and can belt a song out with the best of them. So there. Leave me be.
